Cayden’s Story

Meet our Little Bee Cayden, Cayden is 9 years old and lives in Cobh, Co. Cork. Born early in The Coombe he was sent straight to Crumlin where he spent the first weeks of his life. Just 27 weeks into her pregnancy, Cayden’s mum Lynsey and dad Arron received the news that Cayden would be born with Hypo-plastic right heart syndrome, a condition which means he will need a heart transplant in the future.

Since then, Cayden has undergone numerous heart surgeries, his first at just four days old. He has become a regular visitor to Crumlin and has also been diagnosed with Hypermobility Syndrome and Coloboma in his right eye. Because of his multiple conditions, Cayden often feels quite anxious before an appointment but knowing he will be travelling with BUMBLEance eases his anxiety.

Cayden started using BUMBLEance in February 2022 for his regular trips to Crumlin and has built a friendship with our driver Ritchie who takes him on the long journey from Cork to Dublin. Cayden enjoys watching films on board, making what could be a stressful journey for Cayden and mum Lynsey more enjoyable and less stressful. Mum Lynsey says ‘Cayden is authistic and BUMBLEance is a nice quiet place for him to relax on long journeys. He loves the teddies on board and the calming lights.’

Travelling with BUMBLEance not only makes Cayden’s journey more enjoyable but also more comfortable. As Cayden has hypermobility issues, he needs to be able to move around. Being in a BUMBLEance means Cayden can lay on a stretcher and move his legs and arms with plenty of space instead of travelling in the back of a cramped car for such a long distance.

Cayden has two siblings, Nathan aged 13 and little sister, Reya-Hope who is just 5 years old. Using BUMBLEance means dad, Aaron, can stay in Cork and be there for Reya-Hope and Nathan.
