The National Community Policing Office at the Garda Community Relations Bureau has designed, developed and just launched a Children’s Activity Book. The book is a follow on from the Garda Colouring Book released in 2012, and includes 13 different activities as well as a 4 page cross-generational story which will help promote positive engagement with older people.
The book was launched on Monday the 8th of December and a supply of the books was donated to Mary & Tony Heffernan.
The aims of the Garda Children’s Activity Book are to promote and help children (aged 6-12 years) to:
- be safer at home;
- be safe on the roads;
- understand crime prevention;
- engage positively with older people;
- learn about some of the duties of An Garda Síochána.
Superintendent Karl Heller, Garda Community Relations Bureau said:
“Our colouring book in 2012 received such positive feedback we felt that we should build on the initiative and produce an activity book that has an even broader appeal. This activity book is suitable for children from 6 years old up to 12, and it will act as an introduction to personal safety as well as the work of An Garda Síochána.”
He also added “We will continue to place the people we serve at the heart of the work we carry out, and ensure young people are aware of the importance of their personal safety, and the safety of their communities”.
The Garda Activity Book will be released in early 2015.
