What do I have to do to take part?

Register via the link here. Choose between Option 1- Register and pay €50 registration fee and fundraise to raise a minimum of €500 or choose Option 2 which is to host your own hike and raise funds.

Our fundraising team will be on hand to offer advice and support with your fundraising. If you have any query relating to your fundraising target, do not hesitate to contact the team.

What level of fitness do I need?

Hiking requires a good level of fitness to walk the routes. The trekking can be demanding, with very steep and uneven steps in some places. You will want to have a training schedule prepared and some level of good fitness.

What are the route options on the day?

With two walks we would have the following itinerary:

 

Galtee Summit Walk:

Walk start time: 5am

Sunrise: 8am

Return time: 10am

 

Easier option:

Walk start time: 6.30am

Sunrise: 8am

Return time: 9am

What clothing/equipment do I require?

For the Galtee Summit Walk all participants taking part MUST bring equipment and clothing to carry themselves. Each person climbing will need to have the following:

  • Walking Boots – no wellies, no runners, no Doc Martins, no ugg boots etc.
  • Rain Jacket
  • Rain Pants
  • Clothing should be layered- no cotton, no tracksuits, no jeans. Synthetic or wool fabrics are recommended- fleeces, leggings, thermal base layers.
  • Gloves
  • Wolly hat
  • Headtorch – no handheld torches
  • Backpack with the following
    • Food, sandwiches and snack
    • Warm drink
    • Extra fleece
    • Extra batteries
    • Basic first aid kit- plasters, roller bandage etc

For the easier option, the group will be taken to a high point from where you will see the sunrise. This is suitable for those aged 12 plus. They will need the following:

 

  • Strong walking footwear – no wellies, no runners, no Doc Martins, no ugg boots.
  • Rain Jacket
  • Rain Pants
  • Clothing should be layered- no cotton, no tracksuits, no jeans. Synthetic or wool fabrics are recommended.
  • Gloves
  • Wolly hat
  • Torch
  • Backpack with the following- this can be shared between two or three people:
    • Snacks & Warm drink
    • Extra fleece

Please Note: Any person who does not have all the required equipment or appropriate clothing will not be able to take part.

Can children take part?

On both options any under 18s will have to have an adult/guardian accompany them at all times.

Will there be a guide on the day?

Adventures.ie are guiding the hike. The hike is a fully services event, with 1:12 ratio of guides.
