Mothercare Buzzes with BUMBLEance
On International Children’s Day
Launching multi-platform fundraising campaign
This International Children’s Day (1st June), Ireland’s leading nursery store, Mothercare announces the birth of a long-term partnership with BUMBLEance.
Mothercare will implement a long-term, multi-platform fundraising campaign that will see support for BUMBLEance across all stores in Ireland, online and across social media platforms.
BUMBLEance is the world’s first fully interactive Children’s National Ambulance Service, specifically designed for and tailored to children. BUMBLEance ensures the safe transportation of sick children between their home and paediatric hospitals, hospices, national treatment centres and respite centres nationwide. They also provide a unique and vital service through their Angel Trips, the final journey a child takes on earth before he or she grows their Angel Wings.
The PR BUMBLEance will tour all Mothercare stores throughout the year giving customers and their families the chance to experience the interactive children’s ambulance first-hand and see the wonderful service they provide. Timetable listed below. Mothercare will also host €1 weekends for BUMBLEance throughout the year, as well as producing and stocking the 2018 Calendar from October 2017. Mothercare will also stock the BUMBLEance Bee teddy, with 100% of all sales going to the charity and there will also be BUMBLEance collection canisters at each till point.
Speaking at the launch of the charity partnership this week, Founder and CEO of the Saoirse Foundation, Tony Heffernan said “we are delighted to partner with such a respectful and child-focused business as Mothercare and we look forward to transporting many children over the next few years with their support. We are very excited to announce that Mothercare will not only be fundraising for BUMBLEance through a variety of excellent initiatives, but they will also be kitting out our entire BUMBLEance fleet with Mothercare booster seats, car seats and select toys. This will ensure that Ireland’s seriously and critically ill children will continue to have the most comfortable journey possible in a safe and fun environment.’

Tony and Mary Heffernan saw first-hand the need for this critical service as they had to transport both of their children, Saoirse and Liam, to and from hospitals for regular treatments. Both children suffered from Battens Disease, a rare and fatal genetic disorder of the brain. Saoirse lost her battle with Battens disease in 2011, age 5 and Liam also passed away in 2014, also age 5. BUMBLEance was created by Tony and Mary so that no other family would have to deal with the hardships of transporting sick, critically ill and children with life limiting / threatening conditions.
The Saoirse Foundation is currently working to deliver a brand new BUMBLEance service regionally nationwide, known as BUMBLEette. This specially designed, child-friendly vehicle will provide transportation and support to families who have sick and seriously ill children who need transportation to and from cancer treatments, scheduled appointments and other specialised care services, but who do not necessarily need a paramedic on board.
Mothercare Ambassador Anna Daly said “as a mother I am blown away by the work BUMBLEance does. I can’t even begin to comprehend what Tony and Mary went through and the fact they have worked so hard to do something so great is a testiment to them and a really wonderful legacy for Saoirse and Liam. It’s great to be able to support them in lots of different ways with Mothercare.”
Jonathan Ward, Managing Director of Mothercare Ireland commented on the partnership “we think long and hard before selecting our charity partners and BUMBLEance is a perfect fit for us and our customers. The work they do is so important and these issues could impact on any one of our lives without any warning. We’re really looking forward to supporting BUMBLEance and everyone in the business, from stores to head office, is excited to work together in the future.”
