BUMBLEance was delighted when BUMBLEair became a reality in 2017. King BEE Keith Gallagher was the first ever passenger to travel on board the BUMBLEair helicopter. Both Keith and his dad were transported from Knock Airport to Westin Airport, Dublin, where BUMBLEance picked them up and brought them directly to Crumlin Children’s Hospital for Keith’s treatment.
The BUMBLEair helicopter was flown by commercial helicopter pilot Ryan Hanrahan. Ryan very kindly donated his time and the use of the helicopter at his own expense in aid of sick BUMBLEance kids. Keith’s dad David said: “The BUMBLEance service has been great for my family, it’s the best thing I have ever heard of. It’s such a relief to know that we have the help of the BUMBLEance team and we are very grateful to all involved.”
The BUMBLEair flight was a trial-run, but The Saoirse Foundation aims to make this a regular fixture as part of the BUMBLEance service. Founder and CEO, Tony Heffernan, said: “BUMBLEair will make a huge difference to sick BUMBLEance kids nationwide. Keith and his family have had a difficult time recently. Not only was he diagnosed with a serious strain of cancer but the family also recently lost their Mum to cancer. Keith and his Dad have been travelling by road via BUMBLEance 5 for chemotherapy treatments every week since April. BUMBLEair significantly cut that travel time for the family and hopefully helped to take away some of the stress of dealing with Keith’s illness.”
A BUMBLEair flight reduces the amount of travel time that a sick child like Keith and his father David have to make. BUMBLEair also provides a well-deserved treat for our inspirational King and Queen BEES. Huge thanks to pilot Ryan Hanrahan and to all those involved in making the BUMBLEair trip a phenomenal success.
